The Executive Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area in Rivers State, Barr Philip Okparaji has promised to provide a conducive atmosphere for the smooth clean up exercise of the Ogoni environment by HYPREP.

Philip Okparaji gave the assurance on Tuesday at opening of a three-day capacity training workshop on HSE and REMEDIATION for Ogoni community workers organized by HYPREP.

The Chairman disclosed that Eleme local government is peaceful and promised to provide security assistance to HYPREP workers in the field.

He urged the trainees to be committed to the training programme and see as an empowerment that would help them in future, tasking them to be good ambassadors of Eleme land.

“Do your best, give your all to what you have come Jere to do, be committed to the training programme, be determined and be focused”.

He continued: ” See this as a service to your community, a service to your local government and a service to the state and a service to the nation”.

The council chairman appealed to HYPREP to consider putting some health measures in place for the workers since they would have direct contacts with the soil.

Barr Philip Okparaji however, expressed confidence in the ability of the Coordinator of HYPREP, Dr Marvin Deekor to deliver on his mandate of cleaning up the Ogoni environment.
